AS Module 2

Module 2 is entitled Information : Management and Manipulation

It concerns itself with the mechanisms of getting information, storing it, retrieving it and keeping it secure. It is in 10 parts

1.Data Capture: This topic considers how to capture data and encode it.

2.Verification and Validation: Considers how errors may arise and methods of preventing and reducing such errors

3.Organisation of Data for Effective Retrieval: This topic deals with how to store and organise data in a relational database and how to retrieve it.

4.Software: Nature, Capabilities and Limitations: Considers the need for software to interface with peripheral devices, considers various different types of software including operating systems, package software and browser software. We consider too the need to make our software reliable and upgradeable.

5.Manipulation and/or Processing: Thinks about ways of processing data.

6.Dissemination/Distribution: Describes the need for suitable output formats.

7.Hardware: Nature, Capabilities and Limitations: Describes the characteristics, capabilities and limitations of computers and peripherals in current use. This has given us the possibility of doing a computer building project.

8.Security of Data: Considers the importance of, and the mechanisms for, maintaining data security, describing the distinction between security and privacy.

9.Network Environments Considers the characteristics and relative advantages of network and stand-alone environments.

10. Human/Computer Interface Considers the need to facilitate an effective dialogue between humans and machines.
